FAB28 Denim by Smeg
Launched at Milan’s Eurocucina fair in 2012 Smeg’s Denim FAB28 retro refrigerator was an instant success with architects and designers worldwide. It has now been awarded 2012 Appliance of the Year by Australian electrical trade journal Appliance Retailer
Covered in pure denim treated with nano plasma technology to guard against stains and fading, the FAB28 Denim is a collaboration between Smeg and Lapo Elkann, CEO of Italia Independent and heir to the Fiat company. And while styling of the refrigerator is pure retro 1950s, the refrigeration technology is very much 21st century – automatic defrost, crystal glass quick-chill shelves, tropical rating, adjustable thermostat, R600A refrigerant and 3.5 star energy rating.
The FAB28 Denim is just one of a family of 50s style appliances in a myriad of colours and designs from Smeg. Some of the more popular designs include the Union Jack, the Australian flag and a candy stripe. The collection of 50s style appliances includes refrigerators, refrigerator/freezers, Happy Bars, built-in dishwashers and freestanding dishwashers.
