No, we haven’t had an epiphany, we’re just getting really excited about pendant lights; with 8 of our favourites hanging out with you this week.

Light Forest

Designed by:
Ontwerp Duo

Why we love it: We spotted these guys at last year’s imm Cologne. The Light Forest is a modular lighting system that resembles New York underground pipe work, with lowered trumpet-like lights. Perfect for that games room, or to make the garage more than just a garage.

Where you can get it:

Ontwerp Duo (currently no stockist in the Region, but definitely worth asking!)

N.U.D. Collection

title

Designed by: N.U.D.

Why we love it: These light cords celebrate the beauty of simplicity. They come in a range of colours and you can pay homage to whichever light bulb you love, or why not mix colours and bulbs for a quirky collection down a hallway.

Torch Light

title

Designed by: Established & Sons

Why we love it: Each of these hanging pendants (pictured here in a clustered chandelier) has a tactile PVC-dipped polymer coating, while the polycarbonate diffuser is described as being akin to the glass in your car headlight.

Where you can get it:

Living Edge

Kris-Kros

Designed by: Kenneth Cobonpue for Hive

Why we love it: This intricate pendant features small pieces of bamboo hand-woven onto a welded-steel structure. We love the combination of heavy and light materials and its droplet-like form.

Sky Garden

title

Designed by:
Marcel Wanders

Why we love it: Weather you’re wanting to bring a modern touch to a period home, or a period touch to a modern home, this light by Marcel Wanders is perfect. Featuring a real plaster-relief ‘garden scene’ in the underside of the shade, it’s a new interpretation of the ceiling rose. Gloss black and white or satin bronze and gold.

Where you can get it:

Euroluce

Mini Mini

Designed by: HABITS Studio

Why we love it: These fine LED and low-voltage halogen lights offer an understated elegance – offering a feature piece without overpowering other elements. Great for smaller spaces.

Where you can get it:

Luceplan

Aurea

title

Designed by: Denis Santachiara

Why we love it: There is a simplicity in this large pendant light that gives it presence when hung above a table or in the centre of a room. It hangs stoically, giving visual weight to interiors.

Where you can get it:

Gineico

Chimney

title

Designed by:
Benjamin Hubert

Why we love it: These hand thrown clay lights take a material more commonly associated with pots or other vessels and literally turns it upside down. The painted white glaze underneath makes for a beautiful glow when switched on.

Where you can get it:

Great Dane shortly – Benjamin will launch ‘Chimney’ in Australia at the Great Dane showroom for Saturday in Design on 19 – 20 August 2011
