In a Different Light
In the next issue of Habitus we take a trip to Melbourne to look the architect Ilana Kister’s inner-suburban home. In Habitus #15 (out March 28) Stephen Crafti discusses how she made her warehouse in to an urban space that was practical for a young family.
Once a mechanic’s workshop, the 1920′s warehouse style was previously used as an office. The buildings exposed brick walls add a rustic finish to the sleek contemporary interior.
Retro light fittings, and vintage wallpapers add a personal touch to the industrial aesthetic.
“I loved the rawness of the space, as well as the generous volumes,” says Kister, pointing out the 4.5 metre ceiling height in the open plan kitchen and living area.
