The Life Outside Issue

Introducing the Life Outside issue of Habitus magazine. With life increasingly being absorbed into a digital space, there is never a more important moment to hold something tangible. In this context, the power of nature to have a physiological impact on our sense of wellbeing has never been more important. So how can we cultivate the benefits of the our natural environment in the most intimate of places – our homes? This was the question that helped to bring this issue of Habitus to life.

Habitus… Still Loves SID

As the design dust settles we bring you eight of our favourite new products from this year’s Saturday in Design Melbourne.

August Chair

Designed by: Temperature Design

Why we love it: With a recycled plastic shell made from mobile phones and computers, the August chair combines a plush upholstered seat with a robust frame. It comes in two versions – 400 or 450mm high, either as fixed or swivel seat.

Fab28 Denim

Designed by: Smeg

Why we love it: Treated with nano-technological PLASMA to protect the surface of the fridge from splashes of water, oil, milk and fruit juices, the denim cover of this fridge overcomes its suspicion of impracticality to deliver a uniquely creative twist on the common kitchen appliance.

Where you can get it: Smeg

Indu+

Designed by: Cosh Living

Why we love it: With its good looks across a range of models, customisable finishes and accessories to make it suitable for a variety of environments and price points, as well as the use of new technology in the induction systems and the flexibility that this offers, the Indu+ proposes exciting new possibilities for the traditional Australian barbecue.

Milo

Designed by: Jardan

Why we love it: Made from a combination of structural eco-plywood and solid Tasmanian Oak, the frame of this modular seating system is upholstered in high resilience CFC-free foam with the addition of a quilted cover for a casual, soft appearance.

Quarry Group

Designed by: Benjamin Hubert

Why we love it: These hand-turned, thin-walled marble pendant lights add texture and utilise the stone’s translucent properties to diffuse light and reveal its veining. The traditional material is offset by the use of an LED, which allows the large, hand-turned internal cavity to remain open and uncluttered. The interior surface is reminiscent of the first cut by renaissance sculptors to rough out a form.

Where you can get it: Great Dane

Solid Table

Designed by: One Third for Stylecraft

Why we love it: Manufactured from solid Tasmanian Oak providing natural or coloured stain finish, the Solid table is available in both dining and coffee table heights.

Where you can get it: Stylecraft

alt

 Breeze

Designed by: Tait

Why we love it: Simple and elegant, the breeze collection is constructed from Zinc Plated steel which is available in a wide range of UV stable powder coated colours or hot dipped galvanised.

Where you can get it: Tait

 Echo Console

Designed by: Wilhelmina McCarroll

Why we love it: Colorful yet reserved, detailed yet clean of line, the Echo Console offers a pared back playfulness to its surroundings.
