Why Gaggenau Got On Board With Habitus House Of The Year: People’s Choice

Robert Warner is the general manager for Gaggenau in Australia. As a partner of Habitus House of the Year: People’s Choice, we spoke to Rob about the initiative, what it offers the industry, and why Gaggenau had to be involved.

Habitus House of the Year is a continuation of the Habitus mission to share exceptional architecture with a wider community of design lovers. How does Gaggenau share this sentiment?

Gaggenau consumers live sophisticated lifestyles. The usual aspirations have been attained and the search is on for less obvious rewards. They have the desire to enrich and define their cultivated tastes and lives. Their homes are viewed holistically, as a means to facilitate their lifestyle, with architecture, design and location being given careful consideration.

The homes showcased throughout the programme embody the values consistent with our consumers and their aspirations.

Why was it important to Gaggenau to partner on this journey?

Gaggenau constantly seeks to inspire others and to celebrate great design. It is this pursuit that drives us to partner initiatives such as Habitus House of the Year: People’s Choice.

As we have seen throughout the series, many of the designs include incredible spaces, pure materials, exquisite craftsmanship and skilled construction. It is our desire to be an extension of these characteristics and for the kitchen to exhibit the same passion and design intent.

If there is a greater passion for quality design from the viewership then the show has achieved its objective.

From the Habitus House of the Year selection, what impressed Gaggenau?

To me, what stands out about Point Wells House is its craftsmanship – from the timber pitched roof, to the boxed steel windows, flooring and furniture… It seems that every detail has been finished by hand. And it’s this detail that delivers this home its soul.

A truly grand architectural statement – that is Horizon House on the NSW coast which also stood out to me. The recycled antique oak flooring is a clear highlight and provides a wonderful backdrop to the kitchen space that is beautiful, functional and inviting itself. It is the embodiment of luxury living, in that it seamlessly integrates into the overall design, yet retains its individuality.

As a brand that has evolved over 336 years, I truly appreciate the 17 years it has taken to complete this project – it shows dedication to the design, getting every finish just right.

And finally, there is a purity to the materials and finishes within the Artists’ Retreat that combine so well with the seamless transition from internal to external space. It is a genuinely modern take on open plan living, with dining, kitchen and garage spaces completely open without doors or windows. I think the use of raw materials, combined with re-purposed furniture is what really gives this unique space its authenticity.

One of the core values for the Gaggenau brand is authenticity. This experience has enabled us to connect with authentic design partners across multiple platforms.

What do you hope the viewers will gain from watching the TV show?

For me it is a simple desire for viewers to gain a broader interest and appreciation of great design. Habitus House of the Year: People’s Choice provides viewers a unique insight into quality design catering to both form and functional needs, craftsmanship, light and shade, space optimisation and the importance of selecting complimentary materials to the period and style of the home itself.

If there is a greater passion for quality design from the viewership then the show has achieved its objective.

What has Gaggenau gained from this experience?

One of the core values for the Gaggenau brand is authenticity. This experience has enabled us to connect with authentic design partners across multiple platforms; complimentary suppliers, media partners, architects, designers and aspirational consumers who are passionate about quality design.

It is these connections that drive us to inspire, enable and contribute to the continual development of modern design.
