James Garvan, Director, James Garvan Architecture

Great architecture and interior design is site-responsive and client-specific, it is progressive, ambitious and yet timeless. Above all else, great architecture displays the consistency and purity of an idea that has been meticulously chased through all stages of a project’s lifespan. Through Architectural, Interior Design and Construction Management services, James Garvan Architecture brings this consistency and purity to any project. Specialising in high-quality and tailored residential design, a rigorous and collaborative design and delivery process is undertaken in the pursuit of creating crafted contemporary architecture, and ultimately something great. Garvan graduated from the University of Sydney with a Masters in Architecture where he won the Sir John Sulman Award for the Most Outstanding Academic Record and was placed on the Dean’s List of Academic Achievement five years running. Since graduating, he has worked in London and Sydney with some of the world’s most prolific architects before establishing his own practice; James Garvan Architecture.

Facilitated by: Marcus Piper, Art Director, Habitus

A self-described Digital Craftsperson, Marcus Piper has been the creative force behind many of Australasia’s most important A&D publications over the past two decades including POL Oxygen, Mezzanine, Indesign and Habitus magazines. In 2003, as founding art director of the multi-award winning POL Oxygen, he moved from Sydney to London which is where his romance with working remotely began, continuing his role with the Australian-based title in a pre-broadband time. It was a moment when technology and IT staff where just up to the task, but it worked, and upon his return to Australia, he located himself on the South Coast of NSW, working for clients locally, nationally and globally. Seventeen years later and a with wealth of work under his belt, Piper has become somewhat of a forward thinker in the potential of living regionally with an international portfolio of clients and projects. To what does he attribute that success? Well, as he points out “It is a combination of communication, discipline and refusing to become redundant.”
