The Life Outside Issue

Introducing the Life Outside issue of Habitus magazine. With life increasingly being absorbed into a digital space, there is never a more important moment to hold something tangible. In this context, the power of nature to have a physiological impact on our sense of wellbeing has never been more important. So how can we cultivate the benefits of the our natural environment in the most intimate of places – our homes? This was the question that helped to bring this issue of Habitus to life.

Habitus Loves… Winter Warmers

Our apologies to readers in the not-so-cold parts of the region as this week we fight back the chill with 8 of our favourite ‘winter warmers’.

Koko Black Hot Chocolate

title

Designed by:
Koko Black

Why we love it: Now, this hot chocolate is best enjoyed on Melbourne’s Lygon Street in the middle of winter, but you can always order it online and get the chocolate shavings shipped to you. It’s important you channel Nigella Lawson though, as it requires equal parts milk and cream! It’s making us warm just thinking about it!

Where you can get it:

Online from Koko Black or in store

Thor Firepit

title

Designed by: Gordon Tait

Why we love it: This outdoor firepit (is there such a thing as an indoor firepit?) is simple, with honest materials that are designed to rust and weather. It’s made for the garden and made for gathering.

Where you can get it:

Tait Furniture

ffixxed Hand Muff

title

Designed by: ffixxed

Why we love it: We’re not sure if they never left, or if they’ve come back in, but either way we love the thought of woollen hand muffs. This knitted piece by Chinese/New York fashion label ffixxed make us smile.

Where you can get it:

ffixxed stockists

Missoni Janet

Designed by: Missoni

Why we love it: What better (and more sustainable) way to warm you up on a cold winter’s night than an extra quilt? This colourful quilt from Missoni is sure to bring a smile to your face as you curl up.

Where you can get it:

Spence & Lyda

Ghost

title

Designed by:
EcoSmart Fire

Why we love it: This compact fireplace is almost invisible with its toughened glass and stainless steel construction. We love it with the designer logs (unfortunately not included) and it’s perfect for smaller spaces.

Where you can get it:

Morphing Bath

Designed by: Ludovica + Roberto Palomba

Why we love it: There’s nothing better than slipping into a warm bath when the freezing rain hits the panes. This tub makes us want to get a good book and submerse into steaming hot water – even more so in red!

Where you can get it:

Folk Sofa

title

Designed by: Rafa Garcia

Why we love it: Couches are made for curling up. This beautiful piece from Sancal is made for cuddling, in fact it feels like the couch itself is giving you a big warm hug. Definitely one to sink into!

Where you can get it:

KE-ZU

Zip HydroTap

title

Designed by:
Blue Sky Design

Why we love it: Designed in 2003, this little Aussie invention delivers exactly what you need when it’s cold – boiling filtered water at the touch of a button! It’s one of our favourite kitchen devices, and we couldn’t live through the colder months without it.

Where you can get it:

Zip Industries
