The Scape Collection by Tait Wins Big At This Year’s Good Design Awards

Scape by Adam Goodrum for Tait responds to the ever-changing landscape of our cities. In 2020, we celebrate its design excellence for the Best in Class Accolade Award in the Product Design Furniture and Lighting Category.

The Good Design Awards – an annual highlight on the design calendar and Australia’s oldest and most prestigious international awards for design and innovation. This year, taking home the award for the Best in Class Accolade 2020 in the Product Design Furniture and Lighting category is the Scape Collection by Adam Goodrum for Tait.

Since its inception in 1958, the distinguished event is a design celebration that honours the best new products and services within the Australian market; excellence in architectural design, engineering, fashion, digital and communication design, design strategy, social impact design and the emerging young designers who are ready to change the game. Year after year, the illustrious panel of jurors come together to examine, converse and select the entries that best showcase ‘good design’, ‘design innovation’ and ‘design impact’ over a range of categories.

The Scape Collection by Adam Goodrum does no less.

Scape responds to the challenges of rapid urbanisation facing our cities. The piece features a fluid, triadic system with a modular concrete bench seat as Scape’s centrepiece. Designed to foster our relationship with the natural environment, encourage social interaction, while also providing a place for inspired and productive working or a space for the soul to refresh in a moment of respite. This is supported by a multitude of seating combinations for the individual to use throughout the day.

Reminiscent of flowing rock formations and the nature of rocky landscapes, Scape is earthy and tactile with its curvaceous profile and captivating character. Here, Adam Goodrum reimagines the outdoor furniture design paradigm, challenging conventional designs of socially-driven breakout spaces.

Scape received great praise from the Jury, commenting:  ‘Playful and beautiful work which combines a number of design languages in its quest to solve functional problems. A fine example of local design which will no doubt be successful locally. A nice combination of materials and finishes to suit a variety of uses. Congrats guys – an amazing result. Friendly, robust, and a unique personality.’

In 2020, the Good Design Awards hit a record-breaking number of submissions, reaching 835 design projects for this year’s international design awards. During a period of uncertainty and hardship, the Good Design Awards strive to honour the hard work and dedication throughout the industry. The extraordinary projects that have been evaluated this year showcase exemplary design, passion and a potential to improve everyday living.

“There’s no doubt it has been a really tough year for everyone so it’s nice to be able tos hare some good news for a change,” CEO of Good Design Australia, Dr. Brandon Glen, expresses. “The projects represented in this year’s Good Design Awards shine a positive light on our creative and innovative capacity as human beings. These inspirational winning projects give me hope and optimism that our design community will continue to innovate, no matter how challenging the world around us is.”

Scape by Adam Goodrum is available Australia-wide through Tait.
