The 'Bespoke' Issue

With Guest Editor Yasmine Ghoniem, we are launched headfirst into the world of unique and eclectic design. From architecture to interiors, there is nothing that can’t be enlivened with bespoke interventions. Granted, a stunningly beautiful home can be made by simply shopping for the best, but when the artist’s hand is introduced, some pure magic is possible. Whether it is an artwork or a new upholstery, a built-in component or a mosaic inlay, these gestures, whether bold or subtle, are what make the home unique.

Introducing the recreation of a classic cognac originally made for Russian royalty.

Hennessy has a long tradition of producing the world’s best cognacs. Their latest offering harks back to 1818, when the Empress of Russia requested the Hennessy family create the finest cognac as a gift for her son, Tsar Alexander 1.

Almost 200 years later Hennessy have revived the recipe for this unique drop and enlisted the design expertise of Stéphanie Balini – known for her work with Baccarat – to create a bottle and packaging to do it justice.

The result is an amber liquid housed in a facetted glass vessel, with an 18-carrat gold-plated label “recalling the costumes of the imperial court”.

“Both statuesque and majestic, this decanter naturally evokes the splendour of the Imperial Court,” says Balini.

The bottle is presented in a cushioned purple and gold box, for presentation and preservation in a very royal manner.

Hennessy Paradis Impérial has limited availability.
