Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Habitus 63 is arguably the most aspirational issue of the year with Kitchens & Bathrooms to dream about. Whether a family hub, an entertainer’s paradise or somewhere to grad a quick meal, how we live in and spend time in the kitchen is a very personal question that requires thought and an abundance of resources. Always the aspirational eye candy of design, we have some truly lovely kitchens from Greg Natale, YSG, Splinter Society, Sally Caroline and Studio Johnston. Bathrooms are just as important with Greg Natale, Studio Tate, YSG and Those Architects sharing some fabulous insights

Victor, A Pig’s Tale

A new decanter by Austrian glass-master, Riedel, and butcher, Victor Churchill, is nothing to snort at.

It’s one of the most surprising collaborations we’ve seen: a butcher and a wineglass maker (just missing a baker it seems).

And together, Victor Churchill and Riedel have turned out something just as surprising – a pink decanter based on the shape of a curly pig’s tail. Named Victor, it is a tribute to master butcher and founder of Vic’s Premium Quality Meat, Victor Puharich.

Anthony Puharich, son of Victor and the man behind bespoke butcher Victor Churchill, says of the collaboration, “we both have a passion for consumer-led design and innovation and this decanter is a wonderful outcome of that shared philosophy.”

Georg Riedel, 10th generation Riedel, adds, “the decanter is charming to look at; it also enhances the enjoyment of wine, a functionality that was important to both of us”.

The free-blown glass (formed by hand without the aid of a mould) has a pink line running through it, remnants of a rod of pink crystal introduced while the glass is in molten form. And accompanying each signed, limited edition piece is A Pig’s Tale, a printed and illustrated children-style storybook (both cute and funny). Anthony says, “we wanted it to tell a quirky tale on how the idea was born”.

Hmm, I’m hungry for a steak and red wine. Maybe it’s a more fitting partnership that I originally thought…
