$10 000 prize announced for Royal Como Art Commission

The Royal Como Art Commission has announced a list of six artists who have been invited to submit works for a generous $10 000 prize.

Six talented emerging artists from Monash Art Design and Architecture, MADA, are all in the running to win the important new commission. The artists that have been selected for their unique and disciplined practices include Emily Cheng, Andrea Eckersley, Alyra Bartasek, Lachlan Petras, Jimmy Tucker and David Egan.

Varied in their visual language, the artists represent the next generation of fine art about to make an impact on Australia’s visual and cultural identity.

Andrea Eckersley says an opportunity to win an award like the Royal Como Art Commission represents an incredible boon to her artists practice. “I applied for the Royal Como Art Prize because I have recently finished my PhD in Fine Arts at Monash University and the prize money represents a great opportunity to fund my future art projects.”
