Showcasing outstanding contributions to architectural design across Melbourne and regional Victoria, Australia’s largest architecture awards took place at the end of June this year. A total of 19 Named Awards, 21 Architecture Awards, and 17 Commendations were presented. Notable winners overall include Northern Memorial Park Depot by Searle x Waldron Architecture, which was awarded the prestigious Victorian Architecture Medal. The project won the Melbourne Prize and received an architecture award and commendation in the Commercial and Sustainable Architecture categories respectively. With its sumptuous interiors, Melbourne Place by Kennedy Nolan also took out multiple awards in Commercial and Interior Architecture categories.

Moving to the residential areas, Dunstan by SSdH took out the award for Residential Architecture – Houses (Alterations and Additions) as well as the EmAGN Award. The jury noted: “SSdH’s granular response to context and the practicalities of their clients’ brief has been delivered with playful ingenuity – but in a broader sense, Dunstan is an exemplar of how our suburban buildings can be sensitively revitalised to create meaningful housing.”

Studio Bright was a winner in the Residential Architecture – Houses (New) category with Hedge and Arbour House. Here, the jury commented: “This project offers a replicable, forward-thinking model for how suburban housing might evolve – one where built form and environment are not at odds, but are integrated with sensitivity, restraint, and innovation.”
