Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Kitchens and bathrooms are, arguably, the most consequential rooms in the home — and almost always the first to be considered. Whether approached through renovation or new build, their design has the power to recalibrate how a home is lived in and experienced. For this issue, our guest editor, Mardi Doherty, principal of Studio Doherty, explores what it truly means to transform these pivotal spaces — and why thoughtful design in kitchens and bathrooms delivers dividends far beyond the purely functional. Her insights both as an architect and as her own client give an open and honest account of the thinking behind creating a home.

Comback Chair from Space

Kartell revisits the classic 18th Century Windsor ‘Comb Back’ chair, with this contemporary take by Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola.

Just arrived in Australia, the Comback features a backrest consisting of seven “teeth” spreading out towards the lumbar region where they meet a reinforced hexagonal rim before extending down to join the seat.  Perfectly proportioned, the Comback is a single mould chair made from batch-dyed thermoplastic technopolymer.

Comback is available in four versions, each embodying both comfort and functionality with a well balanced appreciation of the past.

The Comback chair is available as:

  • SWIVEL CHAIR: four legs and a swivel shaft in white or black
  • SLED CHAIR: two  slim tubular side legs available in White, Black, Orangey Red, Yellow, Grey Blue or Hazelnut
  • WOODEN CHAIR: four oak-stained Ashwood or white or black painted Beechwood legs
  • ROCKING: two rocker legs/runners in Oak-stained Ashwood
