With Guest Editor Yasmine Ghoniem, we are launched headfirst into the world of unique and eclectic design. From architecture to interiors, there is nothing that can’t be enlivened with bespoke interventions. Granted, a stunningly beautiful home can be made by simply shopping for the best, but when the artist’s hand is introduced, some pure magic is possible. Whether it is an artwork or a new upholstery, a built-in component or a mosaic inlay, these gestures, whether bold or subtle, are what make the home unique.

Matter meets design in mineral magnificence

The newest brand to emerge from Cosentino’s creative crucible is Ēclos, a next-generation mineral surface that embodies the organic beauty and tactility of marble in a precision-mineral surface or material.

Traditional stone is born of forces beyond human control – it is created in the lava-filled chasms and forges of volcanic activity, moulded by aeons of pressure within continental plates, or interactions between chemistry and physics over millennia. It has been treasured as one of the most enduring materials in the architectural lexicon, a sign of luxury, strength and timeless aesthetics.

In the 21st century, innovation has delivered new, ecologically responsible ways of achieving the performance and presence of stone, without the need for excavation. Headquartered in Spain, Cosentino has become known world-wide for superb manufactured mineral products and finishes that enable designers to achieve impeccable and distinctive spaces indoors and out.

The newest brand to emerge from Cosentino’s creative crucible is Ēclos, a next-generation mineral surface that embodies the organic beauty and tactility of marble in a precision-mineral surface or material.

This new design language for contemporary interiors and architecture has been crafted using state-of-the art 3D technology to deliver veining and colouration that is intrinsic to the entire body of every piece, just like natural marble.

Powered by INLAYR® Technology, the production of Ēclos utilises a combination of minerals and recycled materials to achieve a collection with zero crystalline silica, dramatically reducing human health and safety risks during manufacture, transport, handling, installation and use.

Advanced processes including robotic engineering and integrated decorative techniques deliver precision, efficiency and exceptional quality control. The sophisticated, clean manufacturing approach is powered by renewable energy and results in zero wasted water.

The result is an ethical, responsible, high-performance material that has extraordinary design versatility and innate resistance to heat, staining and scratches.

Ēclos has been created to speak to the trend for timeless, spacious and organic interiors that bring natural textures, colours and forms into homes, workplaces, hospitality and retail settings. It lends itself to statement applications including feature walls, fireplace surrounds, splashbacks, benchtops, vanities and cabinetry.

The hues available, ranging from gold-veined creams through to rose-tints, subtle ochres and gentle greys enable architects to develop resonances and depth within spaces such as kitchens, lobbies, boardrooms and living areas. In bathrooms and other amenity spaces Ēclos lifts the ambience and imbues quite moments of personal care with a sense of elevation and calm.

Available in a range of dimensions and flexible to a range of forms including geometrics and organic curves for either horizontal or vertical applications, Ēclos translates the eternal qualities of stone into a materials range that embodies the consciousness and technological advances of the emerging architectural era.

It also speaks to the growing appreciation of responsible product sourcing. Cosentino has been a leader in the ESG space, investing significantly in areas including renewable energy installations, reducing human health impacts from raw materials or finished products, and integrating circular economy approaches including the use of recycled material inputs.

Through extensive research and development, the company has also applied itself to identifying the opportunities for improving quality, reducing process waste and ensuring the manufacturing process is clean, safe and sustainable.

The use of 3D layering technology to create Ēclos is an excellent example of this. Nothing is wasted, and every detail is delivered with exemplary control, efficiency and accuracy.

The result is a material that is exemplary in every sense of the world, offering designers and architects new creative opportunities through the depth, movement and authenticity Ēclos embodies.
