We are thrilled to have interior designer of excellence, Brahman Perera, as Guest Editor and to celebrate his Sri Lankan heritage through an interview with Palinda Kannangara and his extraordinary Ek Onkar project – divine! Thinking about the future, we look at the technology shaping our approach to sustainability and the ways traditional materials are enjoying a new-found place in the spotlight. Chair model: D5 from hülsta (what else J)

Residential space: Portomaso Marina in Malta

Commercial space: Dubai Mall, UAE

Decorative product: Rosenthal studio-line china collection

Functional product: Nespresso coffee machines

Handmade good: My self-knitted scarves

Mass-produced good: flavoured candles vanilla flavour (in particular during the dark and cold German pre-xmas time)

meal: German potato pancakes

restaurant: Bahnhof Bottrop Nord  (former trainstation converted into a Mediterranean restaurant)

drink: there are a few, but in particular “Aperol sprizz” and “Bellini” (Italian aperitifs)

bar: Skyview bar Burj-Al-Arab in Dubai

piece of technology: My brand new Miele washing machine!

historical figure: St. Nikolaus (Santa Claus) – this reminds me of my lovely childhood

vice: ice-cream with egg-liquor (advocaat – dutch specialty)
