On a balmy Melbourne evening last week, architects and designers met at the beautiful V-ZUG Melbourne studio to experience the relaxed surroundings and listen to a curated discussion exploring, Design that Breathes the Rhythm of its Surroundings.
While delicious food and drinks were on offer, it was the in-depth conversation about design that drew the crowd. Speakers Ross Gardam of Ross Gardam, Jacqueline Foti-Lowe Founder of The FRONTROOM and director of Molteni&C and Lauren Treloar, Colour and Design Manager, Dulux, gathered for a 30-minute conversation with Indesign Media’s Jan Henderson to delve deep and dissect the process of designing the Melbourne V-ZUG studio.

Treloar explained the idea of the ’colour drenched’ interior of the studio with the bespoke colour named Coyote. She explained how colours are chosen, how particular colours affects us psychologically and how the tone-on-tone colour layering in the studio is both relaxing and comforting.
Gardam talked of his experience working with V-ZUG’s Global Interior Art Director Gabriel Castello from inception of the project. He also described how he first met the V-ZUG team in Milan at an event organised by Indesign for Habitus and how the collaboration grew and was finally realised.

While Foti-Lowe shared her experience of curating objects for the studio, working with local artisans and product designers and the benefits of buying original pieces.
In all, the discussion ranged over personal experiences, the art of collaboration and the amazing benefits that come from working together with a shared vision. There were questions from the audience and everyone was enthralled to hear the anecdotes and perspectives from each member of the panel. The evening concluded with more excellent food and drinks, and the impeccable hospitality from V-ZUG, as guests mingled and chatted, met old friends and made new ones.
