Living in the Environment Issue

Issue 62 is the first issue of the year and always a great time to put our best foot forward. With Adam Goodrum, the loveliest man in design, as Guest Editor, we draw on his insights as a furniture designer, artist and educator to look at the makers shaping our design world. Sustainability has never been more important, and increasingly this is a consideration from the start with projects designed to address their immediate environment as well as the longevity of the planet. From the coldest winters to the most tropical of summers, addressing how we live in the environment is crucial to creating the perfect home.

What’s the history of your company (how did it start)?

Established in Singapore in 2001, the Ximula Flexible System has cleverly evolved from its early format producing commercial workstations and office shelving into today’s sophisticated wardrobe and storage solutions for luxury homes.

Describe your customers?

The Ximula customer is looking for a new approach to wardrobes and storage solutions. They understand that the static cabinetry wardrobe system is outmoded, expensive and bulky, so Ximula has designed a lightweight, flexible, modular system at a reasonable price to better suit our demanding lifestyles.

What sets your company apart?

Flexibility!

Ximula is the most sophisticated system available to organise your home or office. The Internationally Awarded system can easily transform from being a wardrobe into a TV entertainment system or office shelving with a few simple alterations. Such is the flexibility of the inter-changeable components that make Ximula unique in the marketplace

What are your client’s priorities at the moment?

Our clients rightly expect a superior quality product using materials and manufacturing methods that are friendly to the environment. The Ximula client has a desire for beauty and efficiency and a respect for well-engineered design solutions at a sensible price

What is good design to you?

To me a product only gains “good design” status when it exceeds my needs through sustainable, sensitive manufacture, superior functionality and inherent beauty.

What does the future hold?

Ximula is fairly new to the Australian market so it has been a very exciting time.

Our parent company in Singapore is closely monitoring our market here and is keen to adapt and develop products and finishes to suit our local needs.
