Vintage Modern Issue

The breadth and scope of Habitus has always been extraordinary. With how we live at heart of every issue, we have stepped it up with Guest Editor David Flack of Flack Studio shaking the ‘how’ and looking at new ways to make a house a home. With Vintage Modern as the issues theme, we look at the way iconic design has stayed with us, how daring pieces from the past can add the wow factor and how architecture and good design defy the pigeon hole of their era.

In good company

Spending more time at home is a common New Year’s resolution — and we’ve found the perfect catalyst to help you keep it. Here are eight furniture collections we are coveting.

Living Edge with Tom Dixon

Tom Dixon’s GROOVE collection marks his first foray into outdoor furniture and it’s worth mentioning that it’s a strong debut. Made from industrial-grade aluminium and built to last, GROOVE imbues Tom’s signature aesthetic with real outdoor practicality. It features a durable, eco-friendly powder-coated finish. Inspired by years of research and the HYDRO Chair, the GROOVE range includes side chairs, armchairs, tables, stools and cushions, available in Moss or Putty.

Summer Collection by Great Dane

Great Dane’s Summer Collection distils the quiet pleasures of sun-drenched seasons into pieces that speak to longevity and ease. Inspired by unhurried warm evenings and the serenity of open spaces, each designed to offer a sense of retreat. The collection is extensive, but not limited to, a sofa, bedhead, pendant, and an array of chairs.

Sarah Ellison

Sarah Ellison is no stranger to the adage less is more, designing furniture that balances audacious proportions with measured restraint. With a background steeped in styling, Ellison understands the power of a good piece. Her designs, from the sculptural Muse sofa to the vintage-inspired Sol collection — adorned with sinuous curves and an array of textures — amalgamate coastal ease with modern appeal. The collection is timeless, and Ellison proves this through her proclivity for refining her work with spontaneous additions rather than seasonal collections.

Mogensen’s The Canvas Chair Outdoor by Fredericia Furniture

Beauty is pain, they say. But The Canvas Chair Outdoor by Fredericia Furniture proves that both can be true at once. It marks the brand’s first foray into furniture suited for both outdoor and indoor living. A contemporary reimagining of Børge Mogensen’s 1970 classic, The Canvas Chair, this piece offers the same signature simplicity and elegance, now elevated with materials built for the outdoors. With its practical dimensions, the chair is irresistibly inviting—ample armrests perfect for holding a book or a cup. A marriage of timeless design and modern-day durability, The Canvas Chair Outdoor is an effortless way to bring casual sophistication to any setting, whether under the sun or in the comfort of your living room.

Minotti

Minotti’s 2024 collection refines familiar forms with a sharp, contemporary edge. Hannes Peer’s Yves modular seating system is about tailored precision, while Giampiero Tagliaferri’s Supermoon leans into sculptural lines. GamFratesi’s Vivienne family plays with proportion, Marcio Kogan’s Trio armchair brings texture to the forefront and Inoda+Sveje’s Yoko armchair gets a subtle update. A collection that values craft and detail without overcomplicating things, regardless of the many creatives behind it.

Riviera Outdoor Collection from Mambo Factory

Mambo Factory is the creative engine behind three specialised brands producing design-led furniture, upholstery, lighting, and ceramic tiles—offering a multidimensional approach to interior design and architecture projects. The addition of the Riviera Outdoor Collection is no exception, blending traditional Portuguese craftsmanship with contemporary design. Featuring an array of materials such as marble, Merrazzo tones, metals, and ceramics, this collection presents a range of versatile pieces. Designed with both form and function in mind, the Riviera collection elevates outdoor spaces.

Boardwalk Collection by CULT

The Boardwalk Collection takes cues from the gentle rhythm of timber pathways, translating them into furniture that feels effortless. Solid wood, airy rattan and plush upholstery come together in a mix that’s equal parts coastal ease and everyday practicality. With dining tables, chairs and more, it’s a collection that prioritises substance and style — without trying too hard.

Fly Sofa and Fly Lounge Chair from Space Copenhagen

Also available at CULT, Space Copenhagen pushes the idea of lounging to its fullest with a series designed for sitting, lying, resting, and relaxing. Fly, unlike many sofas and easy chairs in Scandinavian design history, does not impose a particular posture on the sitter. Instead, its seat is optimised for comfort, with loose back cushions that can be arranged to suit individual needs. Yet Fly stays true to tradition in other ways — the sofa and armchair frames, with their slatted backrests, are made from solid oak, treated with white-pigmented or smoked oil.
