Living in the Environment Issue

Issue 62 is the first issue of the year and always a great time to put our best foot forward. With Adam Goodrum, the loveliest man in design, as Guest Editor, we draw on his insights as a furniture designer, artist and educator to look at the makers shaping our design world. Sustainability has never been more important, and increasingly this is a consideration from the start with projects designed to address their immediate environment as well as the longevity of the planet. From the coldest winters to the most tropical of summers, addressing how we live in the environment is crucial to creating the perfect home.

Grand Designs LIVE

Grand Designs is coming to life from 21-23 October 2011 at The Sydney Convention centre NSW.

Kevin McCloud, host of the hugely popular UK television show Grand Designs, will visit Australia for the first time to officially open the inaugural Grand Designs Australia LIVE later this month.

“Grand Designs Australia LIVE is the television series turned 3D! With the special features and over 300 exhibitors it’s sure to be a worthwhile experience,” says McCloud.

Grand Designs Australia LIVE will offer visitors inspirational design ideas and quality renovation solutions across four Grand precincts.

The event is divided into four segments. There is The Grand Building Quarter, The Grand Bathrooms & Kitchens Quarter; The Grand Outdoor Quarter and the Grand Interiors Quarter.

“I think the reason why people build their own houses is because they are going through something very primeval; they are making nests and in some way bettering themselves. Those of us involved in construction just love to see stuff happen. We like to think that we are making a difference and improving the world,” says McCloud of the inspiration uniting people around the show and exhibition.

The premium live event offers a program of talks, special events and demonstrations in the Grand Theatre, as well as the chance to attend talk sessions with Kevin McCloud at 11am each day in the Grand Theatre.

Interactive features will include, complimentary one-on-one expert advice, the Phillips House of the Future, Whitehouse Rooms by Design sponsored by Dulux, a Designer Eco Village created by SBS Residential and the Miele Grand Kitchen featuring some of Australia’s top chefs.

Grand Designs Australia enthusiasts will be thrilled to know that host of the Grand Designs Australia TV program, Peter Maddison, will also be there to officially open the event and that Habitus will host its very own Habitus Lounge in the Interiors pavilion.

Celebrity guests making an appearance from the The LifeStyle Channel include Andrew Winter, Charlie Albone and Shaynna Blaze from Selling Houses Australia, and Veronica Morgan and Bryce Holdaway from the new series, Relocation, Relocation Australia.

Habitus has 20 double passes to the exhibition to give away this month. In order to WIN just visit our competition page and tell us why you love the TV show Grand Designs.
