Vintage Modern Issue

The breadth and scope of Habitus has always been extraordinary. With how we live at heart of every issue, we have stepped it up with Guest Editor David Flack of Flack Studio shaking the ‘how’ and looking at new ways to make a house a home. With Vintage Modern as the issues theme, we look at the way iconic design has stayed with us, how daring pieces from the past can add the wow factor and how architecture and good design defy the pigeon hole of their era.

Habitus House Of The Year Is Back And We Can’t Wait To Show You What We’ve Got

The year may be fast getting away from us but one thing that’s unforgettable on our radar is Habitus House of the Year. As we round out our 20 best examples of how people live through architecture and design across the Region, here’s a heads up on what you can expect.

In 2018 Indesign Media launched the inaugural Habitus House of the Year initiative. What began with an exclusive selection of 20 outstanding residential projects announced in the September issue of Habitus was followed by complimentary digital coverage and concluded with a three-part TV series airing nationally on Chanel 7. The television show saw the exploration of those same exemplary projects in a completely new medium – to a completely new effect.

This year, as the September issue once again draws near and with the support of architects, designers, product designers, furniture suppliers and design enthusiasts alike, we are gearing up and getting excited for Habitus House of the Year round 2.

Founding editor of Habitus, Paul McGillick, returns and together we have tapped into our resources and enlisted the expertise of our architecture writers on the ground throughout Australia, New Zealand and SE Asia to carefully curate our final selection.

As our vital touchpoints representing Habitus across the Indo Pacifc Region you may well recognise the voices of Stephen Crafti, Andrea Stevens, Rebecca Gross, Chu Lik Ren, Tonkao Panin, Asih Jenie and of course Paul McGillick, as regular contributors to Habitus and Habitus Living.

While the Habitus team and vast network of contributors are busy finalising this very special issue, here are some key events to keep in mind:

September 2019.          Issue on stands | announcement of Habitus House of the Year 2019 selection | voting for the People’s Choice Awards opens.

September 2019.          Judging Day.
