The 'Bespoke' Issue

With Guest Editor Yasmine Ghoniem, we are launched headfirst into the world of unique and eclectic design. From architecture to interiors, there is nothing that can’t be enlivened with bespoke interventions. Granted, a stunningly beautiful home can be made by simply shopping for the best, but when the artist’s hand is introduced, some pure magic is possible. Whether it is an artwork or a new upholstery, a built-in component or a mosaic inlay, these gestures, whether bold or subtle, are what make the home unique.

Habitus & Living Edge explore creativity at Sydney Contemporary

Habitus and Living Edge presented Art, Design and Architecture at Sydney Contemporary yesterday, sparking a conversation about the intersection of creativity with panellists Peter Lin (Artbank), Nick Tobias (Tobias Partners) and Steve Pozel (Australian Design Centre).

Sydney Contemporary, Australasia’s international art fair, returns in 2015 from the 10–13 September with the largest and diverse gathering of international galleries. As part of the program, Habitus sat down with four architect and design professionals to explore how art brings value to their architecture and design business, projects, and career.

With moderator and Habitus Editor Nicky Lobo, panellists Peter Lin (Artbank), Nick Tobias (Tobias Partners), and Steve Pozel (Australian Design Centre) analysed the intersection of art, design and architecture, and agreed that they all interplay, enhance and inform one another. “The best outcome is when all parts are in conversation with each other. Art can be the pivotal point of inspiration for both the architecture and interior design,” explained the panel. The discussion continued with an examination of the value of art within a project, how its value can be communicated effectively and how an awareness of art give an architect or a designer a professional edge.

Our next Sydney Contemporary talk will be held on Saturday, 12 September, which looks at Selecting Art for your Interiors. We hope you can join us!
