The 'Future' Issue

We are thrilled to have interior designer of excellence, Brahman Perera, as Guest Editor and to celebrate his Sri Lankan heritage through an interview with Palinda Kannangara and his extraordinary Ek Onkar project – divine! Thinking about the future, we look at the technology shaping our approach to sustainability and the ways traditional materials are enjoying a new-found place in the spotlight. HandKnot Collections From Designer Rugs

Ranging from Deco to Tribal, these rugs marry bold, bright and refined aesthetics with superb traditional craftsmanship.

The Mystique range of hand-knotted silk/wool rugs from Nepal is a bold and colourful celebration with an artisan focus. Weaver and Baxter rely on a vibrant to subtle palette of tonal variations that are deceptively complex, while Hudson’s unique link design is influenced by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern traditional tapestries. Majesty’sintricate tribal and Deco influences, is an Impressionist’s dream. Featuring a romantic watercolour palette, Majesty’sfloral design conveys the variation of textures seen in the natural landscape.

Majesty (Mystique)

Designed by Erbil Tezcan, famous for pushing the boundaries of technique within the rug industry, the Wool and Silkcollection incorporates diverse elements of Tribal, Deco, Post-Impressionism and modern landscapes into this new hand-knotted silk/wool range from Nepal. Indisputably beautiful, the Wool and Silk range is created in a unique fashion. The wool and silk are blended by intermixing at the carding stage, rather than the traditional method of plying together at the yarn stage. The resulting weave is truly superb.

Osaca (Wool and Silk)

Pomegranate (Wool and Silk)

Samara (Wool and Silk)

The Mystique Collection priced from $730/m2, and the Wool and Silk Collection from $1000/m2. The rugs are available in a variety of sizes and can also be custom sized, including hall runners and circular rugs on most designs. Rugs are suitable for residential and light commercial applications.
