Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Habitus 63 is arguably the most aspirational issue of the year with Kitchens & Bathrooms to dream about. Whether a family hub, an entertainer’s paradise or somewhere to grad a quick meal, how we live in and spend time in the kitchen is a very personal question that requires thought and an abundance of resources. Always the aspirational eye candy of design, we have some truly lovely kitchens from Greg Natale, YSG, Splinter Society, Sally Caroline and Studio Johnston. Bathrooms are just as important with Greg Natale, Studio Tate, YSG and Those Architects sharing some fabulous insights

Hidden Design

The new Sensys hinge from Hettich proves that often
it’s the things you don’t see that make for good design.

Any good
design should be considered as a whole, and beauty can be found in the most unlikely
of places and the smallest of details. Hettich International are committed to
exploring the concept of design being in the detail, and since 1930 have
developed and manufactured innovative ‘hidden’ technologies to improve the
efficiency of kitchens.

Sensys
is the latest of these ‘hidden’ technologies – Hettich’s first hinge with
completely integrated dampening. Seamlessly combining functionality with sleek
aesthetics, Sensys has been designed with a Silent System soft-close action.
Unlike optional soft-closing elements on hinges that use bulky soft-closing
adaptors, the Sensys hinge conceals the Silent System mechanism so all the user
notices is the gentle action.

The idea
of ‘concealment’ is carried throughout the design of Sensys as a whole, with specially
designed cover caps to hide fixing screws and adjusters. The resulting minimal
aesthetic is enhanced by the use of high grade steel and quality materials.

The
innovations of Sensys have been internationally recognized, and the hinge was
winner of the 2009 iF Product Design Award and the 2008 RedDot Design Award for
product design.

Sensys
represents the evolution of the hinge, and the way in which small details can
not only offer practical solutions, but can contribute to the functionality and
beauty of living spaces.
