The 'Bespoke' Issue

With Guest Editor Yasmine Ghoniem, we are launched headfirst into the world of unique and eclectic design. From architecture to interiors, there is nothing that can’t be enlivened with bespoke interventions. Granted, a stunningly beautiful home can be made by simply shopping for the best, but when the artist’s hand is introduced, some pure magic is possible. Whether it is an artwork or a new upholstery, a built-in component or a mosaic inlay, these gestures, whether bold or subtle, are what make the home unique.

Just Adele

The Oro collection from Just Adele reframes natural stone as a protagonist in the narrative of contemporary design.

The Oro collection from Just Adele reframes natural stone as a protagonist in the narrative of contemporary design. This is about letting the material lead then craftmanship follows, polished into every curve and surface.

“My collections don’t subscribe to a particular era or trend,” says Adele Vine, founder of Just Adele. “The material speaks first. The marble’s patterns, its quirks, its natural tendencies – they shape the form, not the other way around. Oro is an invitation to pause, to observe and to revel in the unapologetic imperfection of stone.”

Founded in 2019, Just Adele is an extension of Vine’s Italian-Australian heritage and her reverence for material authenticity. The atelier bridges the artisanal legacies of Italy with a contemporary sensibility, designing objects that carry the weight of tradition but feel at home in the present.

With its seventh collection, Just Adele steps into illumination. Two wall sconces form the lighting debut, each amalgamating modern silhouettes with tactile gravitas. An interplay of brass patina accents and warm, diffuse light softens the weight. Sustainable choices anchor the collection – fragments from larger stone cuts are repurposed, ensuring each sconce is bespoke and environmentally conscious.

Every piece in the Oro collection is hewn in Australia, where the atelier’s commitment to craftsmanship finds tangible expression. Each slab of marble is hand-picked, every cut deliberate. The bespoke, made-to-order approach is a response to material respect – nothing is wasted and everything is considered.

The material palette is vast and varied as the landscapes it emulates. The moody burgundy depths of Rosso Levanto meet the verdant sweeps of Cipollino, while Four Seasons surprises with its chromatic dance of yellows, greens and dusty apricot. For something more ethereal, White Onyx is an combination of amber, beige and pale green. Complementing these are metallic finishes in patinated brass, raw brass or a silvery sheen.
