The 'Bespoke' Issue

With Guest Editor Yasmine Ghoniem, we are launched headfirst into the world of unique and eclectic design. From architecture to interiors, there is nothing that can’t be enlivened with bespoke interventions. Granted, a stunningly beautiful home can be made by simply shopping for the best, but when the artist’s hand is introduced, some pure magic is possible. Whether it is an artwork or a new upholstery, a built-in component or a mosaic inlay, these gestures, whether bold or subtle, are what make the home unique.

A night of nights celebrating exceptional design

The crescendo of this year’s Habitus House of the Year event series unfolded with a reveal party in partnership with K5 Furniture – including a special conversation on collectible design.

Set in the new Surry Hills showroom of K5, the last of our Habitus House of the Year events kicked off with a riveting conversation, bringing together international guest Orhan Niksic (CEO of Zanat), esteemed gallerist Sally Dan-Cuthbert, and K5 CEO Erna Walsh to delve into the realm of collectible design.

The speakers shared what makes design border on art, highlighting how objects carry deep meanings and each recounted personal anecdotes about cherished chairs and artworks. It was a down-to-earth exploration of the intersection between functional design and artistic expression.

As the discussions unfolded, guests sipped on Four Pillars Gin that perfectly complemented an impressive spread of sumptuous food, adding to the buzz in the atmosphere.

The evening culminated with Habitus editor Aleesha Callahan revealing the winners of the 2023 Habitus House of the Year. It was a moment of recognition and celebration for the exceptional designs that had captured the essence of contemporary living.
