It is also a region where design is foremost concerned with aligning with the landscape, embracing the beauty of the surrounding environment, and stepping lightly on the Earth.
With the Field House project, Creative Director and Designer Olive Cooke and her husband builder and developer Henry Tervenski, owner of Morada Build, brought these themes and values to life in a home for their family.
In collaboration with architect Fraser Mudge and Cooke Landscape Architecture director, Effie Cooke, Olive and Henry have crafted an abode that is both aesthetically and functionally aligned with the location, their lifestyle and their values.

The home is deceptively simple, with an open-plan floorplan that invites the views of garden, subtropical bushland and the sky into every room. Timber dominates as a material, echoing the local architectural heritage and reinterpreting it in a style that is original and unmistakably contemporary.
From the weathered exterior timber cladding to the warm oak underfoot and a feature a refined timber coffee table, the hues, grains and textures of wood weave nature into the fabric of the home.
“I love mixing timbers. It brings such a sense of warmth and gentle energy to a space,” Olive says.
The result is a restorative sense of serenity coupled with an astute balance between privacy and connection to community.

“Here at Field House, we are situated between the ocean, the mountains and the rainforests,” Olive says. “There is a beautiful middle ground of being nestled away and feeling like we’re in this sanctuary, all while being so close to the outside world.”
The home’s heart is the living space, which centres around a King Living Jasper modular sofa featuring a chaise on either end. This is the soft place where the family gathers, including new baby Paloma and the family dog, Pickle.
“When designing a home, I think it’s vital to have something that really anchors the living area, a comfortable piece you can focus everything else around,” Olive says.
The setting frames the space with balance, creating a sense of enclosure that invites the family, and guests to settle in. King Living also offers extensive options for customisation of the Award-winning modular sofas, which for Field House meant incorporating integrated shelves in American Walnut.

With more than 200 fabrics and leathers to choose from for the sofa covers and cushions, Olive found herself drawn Whiteley Silkstone, part of King Living’s new Luxury Weaves Fabric Collection.
“I was so drawn to Jasper in this beautiful woven finish,” Olive says. “It feels really tactile and soft, while also being incredibly comfortable.”
The sofa has been layered with the Zazina cushions in Lexington Natural and Warm Sable, creating an inviting space for lounging, conversation and rest. It is also an adaptable haven, as the patented component system means seats, arms, backs and shelves can be rearranged, the chaise switched or when extra guests are being hosted, the sofa converts into a comfortable bed,
“The modular aspect of Jasper is such a gift with a family. Being able to move things around makes the space feel dynamic and exactly what we need,” Olive says.

The robust construction of Jasper was also a drawcard, especially considering the needs of the family as daughter Paloma grows into an active toddler. Every Jasper Sofa is built on a precision engineered steel chassis that carries a 25-year steel frame warranty, and the covers are removable and replaceable.
For Olive and her family, Field House is a place to live, grow and make memories, and the Jasper Sofa can be part of that ongoing story.
“It’s timeless,” Olive reflects. “It’s a sofa we hope to have here for a while, one that will be passed through generations.”
