Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Kitchens and bathrooms are, arguably, the most consequential rooms in the home — and almost always the first to be considered. Whether approached through renovation or new build, their design has the power to recalibrate how a home is lived in and experienced. For this issue, our guest editor, Mardi Doherty, principal of Studio Doherty, explores what it truly means to transform these pivotal spaces — and why thoughtful design in kitchens and bathrooms delivers dividends far beyond the purely functional. Her insights both as an architect and as her own client give an open and honest account of the thinking behind creating a home.

Maison Instyle

The inauguration of an Australian interiors and design fair not only presents an exciting opportunity to see the best and newest in Australian design, it also promises to enrich and consolidate the sector.

Hosted at the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne, the collection of design-focused interior products will be highlighted against the ornate decorations of the 19th century structure.

A selection of the most promising and interesting suppliers and designers of crafted products will create Australia’s single best opportunity for designers, decorators and retailers to get a sense of what is available on the local market, and will showcase the nation’s brightest talents. Covering furniture, home accessories, home textiles, lighting, interior surfaces, kitchens & baths and emerging sectors the fair promises to be comprehensive and eclectic and offers a unique opportunity to match aesthetics across different product classes.

Particularly exciting for our design hunters is Next Instyle, a collection of products from emerging Australian designers that gives us a preview of what might be on show a few years down the track.

Maison Instyle builds on the success of the Life Instyle concept, shifting the focus from international to local design and strengthening the community of design-oriented individuals and brands. The fair will launch with a catered champagne reception followed by the opening of carefully manicured exhibits to promote the very best of Australian design.

Maison Instyle is part of the Reed Exhibitions family, which brings you 100% Design Singapore and Maison & Objet in Paris, as well as hundreds of other leading events worldwide. Maison & Objet is brought to you by SAFI, a subsidiary of Ateliers d’Art de France, the French Federation for Craft Professionals and Reed Exhibitions France.

Maison Instyle runs July 13-15, registration is now open and members of the trade can register at the website. Members of the public are welcome on Sunday 15 July for a cost of $30.
