The 'Bespoke' Issue

With Guest Editor Yasmine Ghoniem, we are launched headfirst into the world of unique and eclectic design. From architecture to interiors, there is nothing that can’t be enlivened with bespoke interventions. Granted, a stunningly beautiful home can be made by simply shopping for the best, but when the artist’s hand is introduced, some pure magic is possible. Whether it is an artwork or a new upholstery, a built-in component or a mosaic inlay, these gestures, whether bold or subtle, are what make the home unique.

Masterpiece Régulateur Roue Carrée

A different way to read your watch from Maurice Lacroix.

Pushing thier mastery of traditional analogue watchmaking, Maurice Lacroix has released the Régulateur Roue Carrée as part of its Masterpiece range.

Designed by watchmaker and engineer Michel Vermot, the watch pushes the notion of how one reads the time on a watch, reveling in intelligent engineering principles.

Rather than an hour hand, a small cloverleaf-like wheel drives a square cog – with a raised corner detailed in Superluminova – defining the hour.

The large hand reads the minutes and the seconds are detailed like a stop watch at the bottom of the timepiece.

Developed in conjunction with Haute Ecole Arc Ingénierie at Le Locle in Switzerland, many hours and scale models went in to refining the teeth to ensure the differently shaped cogs would connect and drive the device.

Continuing Maurice Lacroix’s commitment to the highest quality materials and understated class, the timepiece’s rim is detailed in a black gold rim, with alternating sandblasted and linear satin finishes.

The back of the seconds dial and power reserve indicator at the 3 o’clock position are sandblasted, while the hands for the seconds and minutes are diamond polished.

For a truly original experience in watch design, the Régulateur Roue Carrée offers first class intelligence in timepiece making and leading style.
