The 'Future' Issue

Habitus #64 Welcome to the HABITUS ‘Future’ and ‘Habitus House of the Year’ Issue. We are thrilled to have interior designer of excellence, Brahman Perera, as Guest Editor and to celebrate his Sri Lankan heritage through an interview with Palinda Kannangara and his extraordinary Ek Onkar project – divine! Thinking about the future, we look at the technology shaping our approach to sustainability and the ways traditional materials are enjoying a new-found place in the spotlight. Profiles on Yvonne Todd, Amy Lawrance, and Kallie Blauhorn are rounded out with projects from Studio ZAWA, SJB, Spirit Level, STUDIOLIVE, Park + Associates and a Lake House made in just 40 days by the wonderful Wutopia Lab, plus the short list for the Habitus House of the Year!

Open House Adelaide

Adelaide opens forty-eight iconic buildings to the public, ranging from heritage to cutting edge.

As part of the About Time: South Australia’s History Festival the South Australian capital will join London, New York, Rome, Chicago, Jerusalem, Barcelona, Tel Aviv, Dublin, Galway and Helsinki in opening a collection of architecturally and historically significant buildings to public viewing.

With a programme ranging from the oldest theatre in Australia through the Federal Court of Australia to the cutting edge, award-winning Ingkarni Wardli (the new Faculty of Engineering, Computer & Mathematical Sciences building at the University of Adelaide), Open House presents an unprecedented opportunity to engage with and appreciate the city’s built environment and trace the trajectory of architectural evolution throughout history.

Director of History SA, Margaret Anderson, said: “Adelaide is known for its striking heritage architecture, but Open House Adelaide will challenge long-standing perceptions of the city by also showcasing stunning cutting-edge buildings.  We are excited that this event adds a dynamic new dimension by linking Adelaide’s history and heritage with contemporary design and innovation.  We hope that South Australians make the most of this unique opportunity to see behind the facades of our local architectural gems”.

Event programs are available state-wide or downloadable here.
