The 'Bespoke' Issue

With Guest Editor Yasmine Ghoniem, we are launched headfirst into the world of unique and eclectic design. From architecture to interiors, there is nothing that can’t be enlivened with bespoke interventions. Granted, a stunningly beautiful home can be made by simply shopping for the best, but when the artist’s hand is introduced, some pure magic is possible. Whether it is an artwork or a new upholstery, a built-in component or a mosaic inlay, these gestures, whether bold or subtle, are what make the home unique.

Achieving the Perfect Imperfect with Apparatus Studio

The duo behind Apparatus Studio, Gabriel Hendifar and Jeremy Anderson, came to design careers through fashion and public relations. Their joint passions for handcrafted details and desires to create timeless lighting designs for their own home led to the formation of their Manhattan studio.

Now, their extraordinary designs are available as part of the Melbourne-based Criteria Collection.

Criteria founder and curator Rachel Fry has created an inspiring part-gallery part-showroom as a way of capturing the essence of Apparatus Studio’s design. This is achieved to great effect at Criteria’s Cremorne showroom, with the discerning collection featuring the work of the next generation of design icons from New York and around the world.

Apparatus Studio is a natural fit within the Criteria Collection. Apparatus fuses sculptural forms with materials such as aged brass to create designs that are at once timeworn and thoroughly modern. Design does not come closer imperfect perfection.
