Kettal arrives in Perth

Furniture showroom S&M Mobilia has expanded its Ziru range and secured outdoor furniture leader Kettal for the Perth market.

S&M Mobilia has staked a claim on Spanish design in the Perth market, with the expansion of its Ziru indoor furniture range and the securing of the exclusive WA distributorship of outdoor furniture specialist Kettal.

While the design and manufacturing arm of S&M Mobilia is an institution on the Perth scene, its Claremont showroom run by Salvatore (Sam) Fazzari, the son of the owner, launched only last November and has already established itself as a strong design force in the city.

Launching with a collection of traditional and modern Mobilia designs, Designer Rugs and a small Ziru range, Sam has had to refocus Mobilia to a more contemporary aesthetic, expand his Designer Rugs portfolio, increase his Ziru offering and source an outdoor furniture range (Kettal) to respond to high Perth demand.

“We have a great appreciation for Spanish design. And, like everyone else, we have fallen in love with the clean lines of it, the simplicity, the elegance,” says Sam. “Initially we were concerned how the Perth market would react to the design element of our first import, the Ziru range, but we were shocked at how well it was received.

“A lot of people in Perth are very well travelled and informed about what’s happening in the world in terms of design, so we found a gap in the market. Perth is starting to appreciate good design and good furniture more than what it has in the past, so that led us to investing more into the Ziru range and bringing on board Kettal.”

While Sam now has three-quarters of the entire Ziru range on floor now, Kettal will arrive later this year with a launch planned for early in the new year.

The S&M Mobilia showroom will be revamped into dedicated areas to accommodate the new brand.

“Kettal has a very unique style and has been manufacturing outdoor furniture for over 30 years. It is design savvy and works with some of the top designers in the world, such as Patrica Urquiola, Rodolfo Dordoni, Hella Jongerius and the Emiliana Design Studio,” says Sam.

Ziru Furniture

“It is a forerunner in design for outdoor furniture. So seeing as we have one of the most beautiful and sunny cities in the world, we should paint it with some beautiful outdoor furniture.”

Quality is also important, so products are designed and made from teak, aluminium, rope, synthetic fibres and more that have been treated or created to cope with harsh exterior conditions.

Ziru Furniture

“Materials have been tested and advanced to a stage where they are really hard wearing. They have a two-year guarantee in a commercial workplace and five-year guarantee in a residential setting, which is unheard of for outdoor furniture, so the quality is exceptional,” says Sam.

Another element of the Ziru and Kettal ranges is their abilities to be individualised by consumers. Both brands have a wide range of finishes, colours and fabrics that can be customised to create unique furniture for different project specifications.

While the Kettal range is currently in transit, Sam has catalogues on hand to introduce the Perth market to his new ranges, such as Vieques, Bitta, Maia and Landscape.
