From architecture to interiors, there is nothing that can’t be enlivened with bespoke interventions. Granted, a stunningly beautiful home can be made by simply shopping for the best, but when the artist’s hand is introduced, some pure magic is possible. Whether it is an artwork or a new upholstery, a built-in component or a mosaic inlay, these gestures, whether bold or subtle, are what make the home unique.

Having launched her own practice at a relatively early career stage, Shona McElroy discusses her journey through the design world (so far) in this podcast episode. Indeed, the question of when and how to launch one’s very own distinctive design studio is a topic she discusses at this event with Royal Oak Floors in July.

Meanwhile, Smac Studio has once again teamed up with Hali Rugs and Smac Studio for a new Icons collaboration designed to bring together elegance, personality and a confident design evolution. The collection features four distinctive designs – Vicenza, Monaco, Seville and Marseille – each available in three colours. Pictured below, the new collection will be available from September 2025.

Timothy Alouani-Roby is a writer and the Editor of Indesignlive and Habitusliving. Having worked in elite professional sport for over a decade, he retrained in architecture at the University of Sydney, adding to previous degrees in philosophy, politics and English literature. Originally from Northern England, Timothy is also a student of Moroccan Arabic and divides his time between Gadigal-Sydney and Marrakech.
