Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Habitus 63 is arguably the most aspirational issue of the year with Kitchens & Bathrooms to dream about. Whether a family hub, an entertainer’s paradise or somewhere to grad a quick meal, how we live in and spend time in the kitchen is a very personal question that requires thought and an abundance of resources. Always the aspirational eye candy of design, we have some truly lovely kitchens from Greg Natale, YSG, Splinter Society, Sally Caroline and Studio Johnston. Bathrooms are just as important with Greg Natale, Studio Tate, YSG and Those Architects sharing some fabulous insights

Fitness, once a private ritual, has evolved into a curated aesthetic and Technogym’s Connected Dumbbells exemplify this shift.

The mystery of how some manage to remain effortlessly fit has been dismantled – to the quiet consternation of the French, who have long preferred their discipline discreet. Now, as rituals are documented and optimisation becomes cultural currency, the act of working out has shifted from the private to the performative. Fitness, once veiled, is now part of a paradisiacal lifestyle. And perhaps, with that shift, exercise itself has become an aesthetic – something to be choreographed, even revered.

Technogym - Connected Dumbbells

The Connected Dumbbells by Technogym condenses a full-weight suite into a singular sculptural system. Twelve increments – ranging from two to twenty-four kilograms – are embedded within the logic of a single object, activated through the rotation of a handle.

Apiece, the dumbbells integrate a discreet sensor calibrated to monitor movement patterns, velocity and consistency, where the metrics are interpreted. Technogym’s proprietary AI Coach acts as a digital interlocutor, translating data into personalised recommendations: suggested weights, calibrated reps and revised intensities.

This system is situated on a minimalistic stand that forgoes the vernacular of gym equipment in favour of something closer to modular furniture. In addition to the dumbbells, a curated suite of auxiliary tools – an Exercise Mat, Foam Roller and three Loop Bands – are housed. A niche carved into the stand allows for the integration of a smartphone or tablet – positioning the user within a mediated training environment. Moving to the material, the handles are forged from high-grade metal, their tactility maximised to ensure grip remains uncompromised, even under strain.

In connecting to the Technogym App, the system expands beyond its physical form. Users gain access to a digital library of on-demand sessions, where content is synchronised with the equipment’s feedback loop. Instructions are informed by the user’s own data.
