Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Kitchens and bathrooms are, arguably, the most consequential rooms in the home — and almost always the first to be considered. Whether approached through renovation or new build, their design has the power to recalibrate how a home is lived in and experienced. For this issue, our guest editor, Mardi Doherty, principal of Studio Doherty, explores what it truly means to transform these pivotal spaces — and why thoughtful design in kitchens and bathrooms delivers dividends far beyond the purely functional. Her insights both as an architect and as her own client give an open and honest account of the thinking behind creating a home.

Fortyfivedownstairs hosts an exhibition of past and present posters from the iconic furniture brand.

Combining a retrospective of the brand’s most classic posters with modern interpretations by ten of the world’s leading image-makers the collection, curated by Herman Miller’s creative director Steve Frykholm, celebrates Herman Miller’s rich and varied history. And in a time when digital advertising mediums are changing how companies represent themselves a glance backwards to the golden age of print reminds us of the sheer talent and creativity of the artists behind it.

As part of the event Herman Miller are also offering the opportunity to have your poster hang with the greats! Simply submit a contemporary version of a Herman Miller poster featuring the iconic SAYL chair for your chance to win! For more details visit the competition page.
