Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Kitchens and bathrooms are, arguably, the most consequential rooms in the home — and almost always the first to be considered. Whether approached through renovation or new build, their design has the power to recalibrate how a home is lived in and experienced. For this issue, our guest editor, Mardi Doherty, principal of Studio Doherty, explores what it truly means to transform these pivotal spaces — and why thoughtful design in kitchens and bathrooms delivers dividends far beyond the purely functional. Her insights both as an architect and as her own client give an open and honest account of the thinking behind creating a home.

When There’s Nothing Left to do but Party

That’s a Wrap! Sydney Indesign 2017 is done and dusted – but we don’t need to tell you that, you were there. Pics or it didn’t happen? Don’t worry, there are plenty.

A year between each Indesign: The Event and for many it seems to roll around effortlessly and perhaps unexpectedly. But for the exhibitors, sponsors, speakers, collaborators – and of course organisers! – it takes that year to organise those two days down to a tee.

Every year we throw a party to wrap the event, but this year, hosted by CAKE wines with Sample Brew as a beverage partner, and sponsored by Flokk, Denovo Recruitment and JEB, felt extra special. To ensure a memorable evening, a photobooth – with an assortment of ridiculous props – was in hot demand all evening, thanks to Flokk. And to ease your transition to the next morning, JEB put together a special ‘hangover kit’, that was even distributed by a nurse… sort of.

It’s a wonderful weekend of excited, if chaotic, energy for all parties: two big days of networking, exploring, discovering and researching. So when it’s all done and dusted, nothing feels better – or feels better deserved – than a huge party where the drinks are free-flowing and the tunes are blasting.
