Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Kitchens and bathrooms are, arguably, the most consequential rooms in the home — and almost always the first to be considered. Whether approached through renovation or new build, their design has the power to recalibrate how a home is lived in and experienced. For this issue, our guest editor, Mardi Doherty, principal of Studio Doherty, explores what it truly means to transform these pivotal spaces — and why thoughtful design in kitchens and bathrooms delivers dividends far beyond the purely functional. Her insights both as an architect and as her own client give an open and honest account of the thinking behind creating a home.

Trunk Pendant

Introducing the ‘Trunk’ pendant by Studio Italia Design from Special Lights, inspired by everyone’s favourite friendly giant.

Designed by:

Russian designer, Dima Loginoff

I am:

‘The Trunk’ pendant, by Studio Italia Design

About me:

A truly unique and funky pendant, the ‘Trunk’ is the latest from Italian brand, Studio Italia Design.

Inspired by the trunk of an elephant (hence the name), the ‘Trunk’ pendant sits perfectly in contemporary residential interiors – working well above kitchen benches, bars and dining tables.

It makes a statement as a single piece, or with several pieces as part of a linear formation or grouped in a cascading cluster.

‘Trunk’ comes in a range of bright colours (white, green, fucsia and yellow) with a black exterior. The pendant will be available in Australia through Special Lights from May 2010.

Materials:

Lacquered aluminium, black fabric cord.

Dimensions:
29cm (H) x 13cm (W)
