Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Kitchens and bathrooms are, arguably, the most consequential rooms in the home — and almost always the first to be considered. Whether approached through renovation or new build, their design has the power to recalibrate how a home is lived in and experienced. For this issue, our guest editor, Mardi Doherty, principal of Studio Doherty, explores what it truly means to transform these pivotal spaces — and why thoughtful design in kitchens and bathrooms delivers dividends far beyond the purely functional. Her insights both as an architect and as her own client give an open and honest account of the thinking behind creating a home.

VOLA shows off a range of award winning designs

The Saloni di Mobile 2016 saw VOLA showcasing a new range of faucets, showers and related design objects.

Based on the VOLA philosophy of “Celebrating continuity; celebrating change,” the brand has introduced a range of new and innovative designs at the Saloni di Mobile 2016.

One striking new innovation for VOLA is the Round Series for luxury washrooms. This includes the new Round Hand Shower T60 that mirrors design of Round Shower 060, has been launched and has received the Iconic Design Award 2015, GOOD DESIGN Award 2015.

This round aesthetic is channelled in a hands-free concept VOLA has designed too, including a built-in soap dispenser that is part of a new complete hands-free solution for restrooms. Innovation and functionality are white has driven these designs, and these words are reflected in both the sap dispenser and the hands free cistern flush.

Company founder Verner Overgaard strongly promotes the notion of revealing only the most elegant parts of a product to the user. His designs carefully hide the mechanical parts in the wall, with the result being solutions that are both functionally efficient and aesthetically pleasing. The new products take the Round Series one step further. In a public space, purity and hygiene are central – so the electronic soap dispenser and cistern flush are built-in and beautifully aligned to the wall while also completely contact-free to provide a totally clean and relaxing experience.
