The 'Bespoke' Issue

With Guest Editor Yasmine Ghoniem, we are launched headfirst into the world of unique and eclectic design. From architecture to interiors, there is nothing that can’t be enlivened with bespoke interventions. Granted, a stunningly beautiful home can be made by simply shopping for the best, but when the artist’s hand is introduced, some pure magic is possible. Whether it is an artwork or a new upholstery, a built-in component or a mosaic inlay, these gestures, whether bold or subtle, are what make the home unique.

In 1978 Ian Swart temporarily took over his father’s rug shop in South Yarra, Melbourne. Already a successful entrepreneur within the fashion industry, he instantly saw the vast potential in handmade rugs, fell in love with the product and took off to India to investigate. The following year, Ian established Hali Rugs and within 15 years had built a nationwide chain of retail stores as well as establishing Hali as the principal rug supplier to the David Jones Rug Department.

Managed now by His children Dan and Rebecca under his guidance, they are the fourth-generation of their family in the rug industry.

The exclusive designs and outstanding quality of Hali Handmade Rugs have kept customers captivated for over 35 years. Currently with seven stores nationwide, Hali is the largest stockist of modern, transitional and traditional handmade rugs in Australia. Our vast experience and market leadership resonates throughout our extensive and exquisite range of products. Amazing Range. Inspired Choice.
