The Life Outside Issue

Introducing the Life Outside issue of Habitus magazine. With life increasingly being absorbed into a digital space, there is never a more important moment to hold something tangible. In this context, the power of nature to have a physiological impact on our sense of wellbeing has never been more important. So how can we cultivate the benefits of the our natural environment in the most intimate of places – our homes? This was the question that helped to bring this issue of Habitus to life.

We started life selling seagrass matting in 1968. The Seagrass Trading Company boasted a unique and unparalleled range of braided mattings made from many different types of grass. By the early 1970s, we had branched out into floor coverings made from coir fibre.

In 1976 we imported our first floor coverings made from pure sisal fibre . The wow product in that range was a rich and chunky weave in virgin pure white sisal called Bardot because the beautiful Brigitte had used it on her bedroom floor. Today’s fashions are more likely to call for elegant greys. The same weaver continues to be our major European supplier today.
