On the heels of the opening of the new Winning Appliances flagship store in Waterloo, Sydney last week, we catch up with company CEO David Crane to hear about his design favourites.


Your name: David Crane

What you do: CEO for Winning Appliances

Your latest project: Creating the new Winning Appliances flagship Redfern Showroom on Danks street, Redfern with a focus on providing the best retail and customer experience the appliance industry has ever seen. 

Who are three people that inspire/excite you:

1) My family inspire and excite me every day
2) Richard Branson because of his branding ability and innovative approach for entering new industries all wrapped up with a good sense of humour.
3) Winston Churchill for his strategy and an unwavering approach of never giving up. 

What is your favourite thing to do: Cooking and entertaining at home with friends and family. 

Car/bike/plane/boat model: On a budget: Fiat 500 Arbath – Italian styling and flair with a sound that makes you smile. Not on a budget: Aston Martin Vanquish

Chair model: Either the Ox Chair by Hans Wegner or the Eames chair by Charles Eames 

Residential space: Modern and simple

Commercial space: Should provide variety and a GREAT shopping experience 

Decorative product: Funky and colourful socks

Functional product: iPhone 

Handmade good: A quality pair of shoes 

Mass-produced good: Dishwashers

Meal: Sushi

Restaurant: Sushi E

Drink: A good Cabernet/Shiraz blend

Bar: The Baxter 

Item in your studio: A good coffee machine

Piece of technology: Sonos sound system

Historical figure: Secretariat – you have to love an underdog story (even if it was a horse)

Fictional character: Harry Potter

Vice: Chocolate 

Virtue: Too honest
