Issue 62 is the first issue of the year and always a great time to put our best foot forward. With Adam Goodrum, the loveliest man in design, as Guest Editor, we draw on his insights as a furniture designer, artist and educator to look at the makers shaping our design world. Sustainability has never been more important, and increasingly this is a consideration from the start with projects designed to address their immediate environment as well as the longevity of the planet. From the coldest winters to the most tropical of summers, addressing how we live in the environment is crucial to creating the perfect home.

Chair model: D5 from hülsta (what else J)

Residential space: Portomaso Marina in Malta

Commercial space: Dubai Mall, UAE

Decorative product: Rosenthal studio-line china collection

Functional product: Nespresso coffee machines

Handmade good: My self-knitted scarves

Mass-produced good: flavoured candles vanilla flavour (in particular during the dark and cold German pre-xmas time)

meal: German potato pancakes

restaurant: Bahnhof Bottrop Nord  (former trainstation converted into a Mediterranean restaurant)

drink: there are a few, but in particular “Aperol sprizz” and “Bellini” (Italian aperitifs)

bar: Skyview bar Burj-Al-Arab in Dubai

piece of technology: My brand new Miele washing machine!

historical figure: St. Nikolaus (Santa Claus) – this reminds me of my lovely childhood

fictional character: baloo bear (the jungle book, Disney)

vice: ice-cream with egg-liquor (advocaat – dutch specialty)

virtue: honesty!
