Meet The 2019 Singapore Saturday Indesign Ambassadors

Meet The 2019 Singapore Saturday Indesign Ambassadors

The much loved Singapore Saturday Indesign is mere weeks away. Ahead of the jam-packed schedule yet to be officially released, here are the 2019 ambassadors you can look forward to meeting.

Saturday Indesign Singapore is just around the corner. And to make sure it’s jam-packed with the most insightful and engaging content around, the team has pulled together an impressive team of Ambassadors. These are the designers helping make Saturday Indesign Singapore the absolute best it can be – an immersive design showcase and a voyage into the most innovative design thinking!

So without further ado, these are the people behind the scenes…

Quck Zhong Yi

Partner, ASOLIDPLAN

Architect Quck Zhong Yi is of the solid belief that good spatial design is at the heart of human relationships. We couldn’t agree more, and that’s why we’ve loved watching ASOLIDPLAN’s portfolio of award-winning residential projects roll out over the last few years. (The firm has won big in our Lookbox Design Awards!) But the team is also active in other sectors, and you probably remember the incredible 3D plaza they created for the National Day Stage Set in 2018.

Zhong Yi trained in architecture at Ecole Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris, and built up diverse architectural experience in Paris (with experimental practice R&Sie) and Singapore (with the URA, DSTA and Formwerkz). Now, alongside his role at ASOLIDPLAN, he is also an adjunct tutor at Lasalle College of the Arts. At Saturday Indesign, Zhong Yi will be lending his perspective on residential design as part of our ‘Design Conversations’ program.

What’s he looking forward to at Saturday Indesign? “I look forward to an intense day of engagement with designers and industry leaders, where we can feel the pulse of the local design scene.” So do we!

Tan Szue Hann

Managing Director, MINIWIZ Singapore

Architect Tan Szue Hann recently took a bold step out of traditional architectural practice and into the world of research, design and development for a company dedicated to the circular economy. He now heads up the new Singapore office of MINIWIZ – a Taipei-headquartered entity (founded by architects) that turns waste materials into architecture, interiors, furniture, products, fashion “and anything else that is worthwhile and meaningful,” says Hann.

In this new role, Hann is focused on opportunities to develop a circular economy pilot involving MINIWIZ technology, consumers, and government construction projects and initiatives here in Singapore.

We have no doubt that he’s up to the challenge. Hann’s CV is filled with awards, speaking engagements and positions in industry groups. Currently, he’s a Board Member of the Singapore Green Building Council, and Council Member and Chairman, Sustainability, of the Singapore Institute of Architects. Since 2016, he’s been a World Cities Summit Young Leader, and BCA Built Environment Young Leader (appointed in both cases by the Ministry of National Development).

We’re delighted to have Hann back at Saturday Indesign for the return of our legendary debate team of 2017! MINIWIZ will be providing the trophy this year. Don’t miss it.

Toh Yah Li

Principal, Light Collab

Toh Yah Li is the Principal of Light Collab, a lighting design studio based in Singapore, with an office in Japan. We can guarantee that you’ve experienced her work somewhere in Singapore – be it at Habitat by Honestbee, Love Bonito at Funan, Flexform Singapore, Djitsun Mall Bedok or the Audi Centre – or perhaps in one of Light Collab’s projects in Japan, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia or China.

Yah Li studied architecture at NUS before pursuing her master’s in architectural lighting design at Hochschule Wismar in Germany. And she hasn’t missed a beat in the development of her professional career. She was one of the first five globally to receive the Certified Lighting Designer (CLD) certification, and this year she was recognised as one of the top 40 under 40 lighting designers internationally at the Lighting Design Awards 2019 in London.

The Saturday Indesign community knows and loves Yah Li from her appearance in our Design Conversations program in 2017, when she spoke on a panel dedicated to new lighting technologies. This year, she’ll be joining us again, but speaking about design entrepreneurship with industry colleagues from other sectors. From SG to JP, we can’t wait to hear her story!

Ken Yuktasevi

Founder, Parable Studio

Ken Yuktasevi has a passion for storytelling and people. It’s something we’ve seen materialise in projects ranging from retail spaces to restaurants to offices. A case in point: Parable Studio’s fusion of sensitive spatial planning and attention to the details of human engagement saw their recently completed store interior for Lee Hwa’s Jewelspace shortlisted in our regional INDE.Awards 2019.

Parable’s award entry text described the project as a space that empowers relationships, and we look forward to hearing more about it from Ken in our Saturday Indesign ‘Design Conversations’ program. Ken is a seasoned public speaker, so can’t wait to hear his thoughts about the ever-morphing retail design sector.

Prior to founding Parable, Ken was an award-winning Director at Ong & Ong’s Experience Design Studio and Director of interior design company Leo International Design Group. “At Saturday Indesign, I’m looking forward to conversations about how purposeful retail design can make a difference for people and culture,” he says. We’re with you, bring it on Ken!
