Who doesn’t love the finer things in life? The Waterloo exhibitors were a celebration of quality craftsmanship, the highest in environmental standards, and the top-most tier in materials.
Cafe Culture + Insitu had a pop-up within the Tongue n Groove showroom, communicating their ethos that fine design means preserving the traditional craftsmanship. Pure Concepts took us on a journey of reimagined ‘timelessness’: harnessing the qualities of precision, expertise and innovation for any interior or exterior abode. While next door, Abey’s incredible bathroom and kitchen installations served as a pointed example that high-end design requires a constant commitment to perfecting materiality.
As part of The Project Christina Waterson, known for her seductive surfaces and intricate installations, activated the Waterloo District with her Nearfar installation, celebrating everyone that had travelled both near and far to experience #SID17. Through its structure and form the installation captures the spirit of the intersections, connections and transformative experiences that CLICK into place during the two-day event and far beyond. The entire precinct hosted an informal, but in-demand, aperativo hour on the Friday and Saturday afternoons, creating the perfect atmosphere in which to view, and experience, the installation.
Abey Australia
Since 1956 Abey Australia has held the front for bringing cutting-edge tapware and sinkware designs to Australia. And for almost sixty years they have continued to flourish doing so.
Highlights – Ideas and products CLICKed together in a series of perspective-based interventions at Abey’s Waterloo showroom, created in collaboration with Spaces & Places for The Project. Encouraged to explore our environment, the installation replicates the sense of an idea coming together through the nuances of spatial composition. Abstract stencilled elements throughout the showroom coalesced into carefully selected vantage points, thus forming geometric shapes that frame vistas. A suspended installation in the heart of the showroom concealed an image that is only visible from one angle. The works aimed to remind us of the ways in which we define and perceive space, and to inspire us all to create compositions of our own.
Additionally, not only were their Gareth Ashton Stile, Bath and Basins ranges on full display, but at midday on the Saturday Abey hosted Clifford of CakesbyCliff for a cake demonstration accompanied by informal drinks. Not to mention an overnight trip to Melbourne’s Coppersmith Hotel including return flights – swapping a business card for the chance to win.
