Habitus House Of The Year Is Nearly Here!

Habitus House Of The Year Is Nearly Here!

Ahead of the official House of the Year launch on Thursday 22 October, here’s everything you need to know about the next three months.

It’s been a long winter and we are finally ready to sit back and celebrate 20 outstanding, recently completed feats of residential architecture spread far and wide across the Indo Pacific Region.

Thursday 22nd October marks the release of the annual Habitus House of the Year special edition and we can – at long last – share with you those special projects the Habitus team has painstakingly hand picked to form the 2020 selection. Make sure you secure a hard copy of this special issue, if you’re not already a subscriber, click here to become one. For this issue only, you can select to purchase just the Habitus House of the Year copy.

It’s been no small feat combing the Region for these exceptional houses. We have sought houses diverse in location – urban and rural; in typology – new builds and alterations & additions; and in size – from compact inner-city retreats to sprawling footprints mirroring endless landscapes. We couldn’t have dedicated the time have, nor been as successful as we feel we have been, without the support of our returning major partners: Gaggenau, Stylecraft, and Zip.

Of equal importance to the Habitus House of the Year programme is the contributions from senior architectural writers, such as Stephen Crafti, Andrea Stevens, Rachael Bernstone and our very own Habitus alumni Paul McGillick, who are locals to many of the houses they have written about for us. They endeavor to visit the houses where possible and have longstanding relationships with the architects whose work they relay to us. Without these personal connections and deep insights into the architects’ history and previous works, we wouldn’t be able to share such insightful stories behind the architecture that captivates us all. We are grateful to have the support of our supporting partner, Rocks On, allowing us to engage these outstanding professionals.

From Thursday 22nd October when the full selection of 20 projects are announced publically on HabitusLiving.com, you will have the chance to judge the houses alongside our independent jury – Karen McCartney, Howard Tanner, David Clark and Neil Burley – to vote for the People’s Choice award, to be recognized alongside the formal awards: Habitus House of the Year; Interior Architecture; Interior And Exterior Connection; and Architecture And Landscape.

All voters will automatically go into the drawer to win the Ultimately Design Hunter Package. An exceptional prize pool of design-led products, appliances and furniture from the industry’s most celebrated designers and suppliers: About Space, Euroluce, The Green Room, Phoenix Tapware, Ross Didier, Savage Design, Stylecraft And Top 3 By Design.

A unique, hybrid physical-digital awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 3rd December, hosted by Stylecraft, Sydney, in which we will announce our 2020 Habitus House of the Year winners and present them with a custom trophy designed and made by Axolotyl.
