Living in the Environment Issue

Issue 62 is the first issue of the year and always a great time to put our best foot forward. With Adam Goodrum, the loveliest man in design, as Guest Editor, we draw on his insights as a furniture designer, artist and educator to look at the makers shaping our design world. Sustainability has never been more important, and increasingly this is a consideration from the start with projects designed to address their immediate environment as well as the longevity of the planet. From the coldest winters to the most tropical of summers, addressing how we live in the environment is crucial to creating the perfect home.

Preparing For Take-Off: Stylecraft Launches Avion In Sydney

After three long years in the making, Stylecraft’s Avion collection by Keith Melbourne received a very warm welcome from Sydney’s design community.

Stylecraft’s Sydney showroom on Level 24 of 100 William Street showcased the diversity of the commercial and residential furniture establishment’s latest collaboration with Australian industrial designer, Keith Melbourne. Designed to bring a residential feel to commercial furniture, the collection’s focus on the comfort and functionality needs of the end-user was evident, with integrated lighting and coat hooks a stand-out feature for those viewing the range for the first time.

Furnishing the space was a diverse range of pieces from the collection, including the freestanding Avion lounge elements, Avion Meet, Avoid Pod and Avion Work. Yet even with the space decked out with pieces from the collection, it could not do justice to the breadth of the modular and highly customisable range. The ability to use Avion’s wall system as the spine for creating a myriad of configurations was another talking point between Keith and guests.

The influence of Keith’s previous life as an aeronautical engineer is evident in the design aesthetic – not to mention – the name of the collection, with the Avion Pod resembling that of a first-class lounge. In fitting with this influence, tending the bar for the event was Trolley’d, a Sydney-based cocktail company who have repurposed airline cart trolleys into bar carts.

All in all, the crowd was buzzing, the collection intriguing, and the cocktails delightful. Thank you for the invite, Stylecraft – as always, it was a pleasure to celebrate with you! Here’s the night in pictures, in case you missed it.
