Living in the Environment Issue

Issue 62 is the first issue of the year and always a great time to put our best foot forward. With Adam Goodrum, the loveliest man in design, as Guest Editor, we draw on his insights as a furniture designer, artist and educator to look at the makers shaping our design world. Sustainability has never been more important, and increasingly this is a consideration from the start with projects designed to address their immediate environment as well as the longevity of the planet. From the coldest winters to the most tropical of summers, addressing how we live in the environment is crucial to creating the perfect home.

The Big Design Market 2016 is Coming

Christmas is right around the corner and The Big Design Market is here to help you with all of your gifting needs, perfect for your favourite design hunters.

Come one, come all, the annual Big Design Market is coming to both Sydney and Melbourne just in time for you to start wrapping up your gifts for the festive season. With an extensive assortment of offerings from budding and established alike, the Big Design Market is a well-rounded experiential affair, with daily workshops hosted by a number of design darlings, ample food offerings, and a dedicated children’s area for the kids to play.

With over 200 stalls showcasing during both the Sydney and Melbourne weekends, the team behind The Big Design Market has painstakingly curated a broad selection of wares from textiles to fashion, furniture to lighting, and stationery to children’s products.

In Sydney, the market will take over the Royal Hall of Industries, and for Melbourne, the Royal Exhibition Building. Both spaces will play host to a variety of tantalising food and drink stalls, ready to dazzle the palate including Gelato Messina, Miss Chu in Melbourne, and Mary’s Burgers in Sydney. For those after hydration, Archie Rose Distillery and Young Henry’s will be plying their wares.

For the design hunter, many of our favourites will be making an appearance, including Trent Jansen, Studio Elke, Leif, Capra Designs, Jam Factory, and many more. In Melbourne, the colourful Industria X have collaborated with a number of designers to create custom artist stools that will form the cocktail lounge for those after a brief reprieve whilst shopping.

Workshops will be hosted by Sibella Court, Beci Orpin, Home-Work and Gemma Patford – exciting creatives who will share their creative process and help workshop participants to create their own little keepsake to take home, or gift as the perfect personal present.

Are you ready, design hunters? Because we sure are! Don’t forget to grab a showbag on the day – you’ll find a special Habitus surprise inside!
