Grand Designs Live UK Competition Winner

Jess Malouf, Third Year Interior Design student has just won herself and her Program Coordinator Monique Rappell, an all-expenses paid trip to London in 2012 to attend Grand Designs Live UK!

Jess also received a $1000 cheque courtesy of Dulux, the major sponsor of Rooms By Design at Grand Designs Live Australia!

Judging took place on Friday 21st October by the show’s UK host Kevin McCloud  in conjunction with Australian host Peter Maddison, Phil White General Manager – Trade Division at Dulux,, Kirsten Stanisich, Design Institute of Australia, Deborah Bibby, Editor Real Living Magazine ,  and Neale Whittaker, Editor in Chief Belle Magazine. Jess’ room entitled ‘Roaming’ is a dynamic common room which harnesses roaming technologies to support a multifunctional space. The organic use of technology enables the room to act as a library, a dining room or a study area. The warm tones encourage nestling while the magazine wall acts as both art and entertainment. Jess received a commendation from the judges for taking her design one step further and actually creating and manufacturing custom made pieces for the room.

Congratulations also go to Alyssa Esguerra who won the People’s Choice Award sponsored by Dulux. Alyssa’s room was inspired by a design aesthetic that looks at the body in space; creating a bedroom that evokes the feeling of being in a cocoon.
