The 'Bespoke' Issue

With Guest Editor Yasmine Ghoniem, we are launched headfirst into the world of unique and eclectic design. From architecture to interiors, there is nothing that can’t be enlivened with bespoke interventions. Granted, a stunningly beautiful home can be made by simply shopping for the best, but when the artist’s hand is introduced, some pure magic is possible. Whether it is an artwork or a new upholstery, a built-in component or a mosaic inlay, these gestures, whether bold or subtle, are what make the home unique.

Side Project exhibits work by independent Australian designers

Side Project, hosted by The Stables, is an exhibition and retail pop-up showcasing a collection of work by independent Australian designers and artists, running from August 13-16

Encapsulating the best elements of a gallery exhibition, a retail space and a trade-show into one format, Side Project is a unique design event running as part of Sydney Indesign 2015.  Side Project will take over the entire ground floor of The Stables, encouraging the design community and passersby to drop by and engage with the works on display.

The exhibition will feature work by Australian designers and brands such as renowned Australian artist Jonathan Zawada, Blakebrough + King, Porcelain Bear and Sydney-based design duo Page Thirty Three. The exhibit will showcase one-off or short run pieces including printed and hand-painted artwork, sculptural furniture, functional objects, magazines, patches, crockery and textiles, most of which have been crafted specifically for the event.

Side Project will run from August 13–16, at 325 Bourke Street, Surry Hills, Sydney.
