Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Kitchens and bathrooms are, arguably, the most consequential rooms in the home — and almost always the first to be considered. Whether approached through renovation or new build, their design has the power to recalibrate how a home is lived in and experienced. For this issue, our guest editor, Mardi Doherty, principal of Studio Doherty, explores what it truly means to transform these pivotal spaces — and why thoughtful design in kitchens and bathrooms delivers dividends far beyond the purely functional. Her insights both as an architect and as her own client give an open and honest account of the thinking behind creating a home.

Laguna is a collection of spherical glass table lamp in different hues accompanied by cylindrical bases from lacquered metal, chrome and brass. With its pure elegance and its harmonious curves, Laguna was originally designed by Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez for Artemide Design with the intention of use in hotel and residential interiors.

Laguna combines traditional hand-blown glass techniques with the latest LED technology, to ensure environmentally friendly lighting and durability. The hand-blown glass gives the light a soft ambient glow. “The lagoon of Venice was the main inspiration: its fascinating atmosphere, its light and its mist. The character of the collection reflects its main material: hand-blown glass from Venice.”
