Living in the Environment Issue

Issue 62 is the first issue of the year and always a great time to put our best foot forward. With Adam Goodrum, the loveliest man in design, as Guest Editor, we draw on his insights as a furniture designer, artist and educator to look at the makers shaping our design world. Sustainability has never been more important, and increasingly this is a consideration from the start with projects designed to address their immediate environment as well as the longevity of the planet. From the coldest winters to the most tropical of summers, addressing how we live in the environment is crucial to creating the perfect home.

PP130 Circle Chair

By SeehoSu

In 1965 Wegner had the idea of making a chair based on the most simple and elegant shape the circle, remained a distant dream until Hans J Wegner eventually completed the design at the age of 72. One of his most visionary projects this chair posed great challenges for the PP Møbler workshop as its construction would push the limits of the possible. The ring itself is made of 11 layers of wood 3.5 meters long laminated and precisely joined to complete a full circle. Consequently, the Circle Chair, one of Wegner’s most characteristic designs. This chair offers great comfort and flexibility and despite its size it is light and transparent and very easy to move around.
